Introduction to Holidays in Luxor
Luxor is the perfect holiday destination if you’d like to explore many of Egypt’s ancient wonders. Luxor today is often described as one of the world's greatest open-air museums.
Divided by the stunning River Nile, the relatively modern city of Luxor with its luxury hotels and spas, bazaars, restaurants, businesses and golf course is set on the East bank.
In contrast many of Egypt’s most symbolic sights including the tomb of Tutankhamen in the Valley of the Kings, Queen Hatshepsuts Temple and the Colossi of Memnon are all to be found on the west bank in the ancient city known as Thebes.
Luxor is a magical city where you can relax in luxury at your choice of fine resort style hotel with swimming pools and extensive facilities. Combine this with enough history and culture to last a lifetime and you can see why so many mesmerized visitors return time and time again to discover something new.
Located in Upper (southern) Egypt, an hour’s flight from Cairo and 800 Km’s south of the Mediterranean coast, Luxor sits on the banks of the River Nile.
Climate in Luxor
Luxor’s desert climate brings sun and warmth for much of the year. On average Luxor enjoys 8 hours of sunshine a day and temperatures of 26°C during the winter months and 11hours of sunshine, 39°C in the summer. Much like the rest of Egypt, rainfall here is virtually non-existent.
During winter the evenings can get very cool so some warmer clothes are required for after sunset.
Best Time to go
Although Luxor is great for a holiday year round, March, April, September and October will allow you to avoid the blistering heat of summer and the chillier winter evenings.
Average daily temperatures in degrees celsius.
