Diving Holidays in El Gouna with Emperor Divers El Gouna

Diving Holidays in El Gouna

Easy access to local reefs with calm conditions make El Gouna an ideal Red Sea diving destination if you want to learn to dive or are fairly new to the underwater world. El Gouna is also a gateway to some of the finest dive sites in the Red Sea, making it a haven for experienced divers, especially wreck divers.
El Gouna’s 40+ dive sites are much quieter than neighbouring Hurghada or Sharm el Sheikh and are reached by boat, many being only an hour or so from port meaning relaxed days and fantastic diving. A little further afield, the legendary wreck graveyard of Abu Nuhas and the S.S Thistlegorm are also accessible from El Gouna. These trips are weather dependent but an opportunity not to be missed.
There is also some fantastic wall and drift diving on offer and it’s not uncommon to encounter dolphins and turtles in this part of the Red Sea.

El Gouna Dive Highlights

Abu Nuhas
The reef of Abu Nuhas is about 2 hours by boat from El Gouna and has claimed more ships than any other reef in the area. Among the many ships that have come to grief here, 4 remain as diveable wrecks for recreational divers. The Giannis D, Carnatic, Kimon M and Chrisoula K can all be found between 5 and 28 metres below the surface. As well as lots of schooling fish around the wreck there reefs in the area are also home to lots of interesting species of coral and fish.

Shaab el Erg
There are a variety of dive sites on offer around this huge horseshoe shaped reef which is over 5km long. The most popular of these dive sites is undoubtedly Dolphin House which is home to a large pod of bottlenose dolphins which are often encountered as they move to and from the lagoon here. .

Rosalie Moller
The 108 metre wreck of the Rosalie Moller sits upright on the seabed with her main deck at 30 metres. She is pretty much intact, apart from a collapsed funnel and stern mast, but more significantly, the hole in her port side caused by the bomb dropped from the German plane that sank her on 7th October 1941.
Large tuna and jacks patrol the wreck in search of smaller fish and large groupers, lion fish and a huge number of glass fish have made the Rosalie Moller there home.
